What is ABACUS?

ABACUS is an online marketplace for creatives or the "want to be creative" folks. Truth is, we're all creative and ABACUS is all about nurturing that quality in everyone.

So, the crafty minds behind the ABACUS idea developed a way to bridge the gap between what people want to make and what they have the means to create by being the facilitators of discovery in an online marketplace.

What is a maker?

A maker is anyone who creates, teaches, or has creative means they wish to offer on ABACUS. All skills levels are considered makers. We have professionals to novice level makers on ABACUS.

What is a seeker?

A seeker is anyone who has a creative idea or desire to learn a new skill, trade, or hobby. Often makers are seekers and seekers are makers as many makers choose to use the ABACUS marketplace as a means to expand their own skillset and knowledgebase and vice versa.

Do I have to sign up to use ABACUS?

Yes. In order to see the marketplace, you must create an account. As of Aug. 1, 2018 only beta testers can view the ABACUS marketplace. In the future, everyone will be able to view the marketplace, but in both cases, you must register with us first to use ABACUS.

How much does ABACUS cost?

ABACUS is free to use for everyone. Makers charge a fee for their services, equipment rentals, and contract services. Transactions between makers and seekers are just that, between makers and seekers. All transactions are handled through our secure online payment system via your choice of either Stripe or PayPal.

I'm a maker, how much I should charge for my services and/or equipment share?

When will I receive payment?

When an appointment is made and accepeted between a maker and seeker, a detailed receipt is given to both parties. Funds are held until such a time as services are rendered the purchaser (or seeker) signs off upon the completion of the agreement. Once the session is marked a complete, the funds are transferred to the maker and feedback is requested for both parties. Depending on your bank, it may take one or more days for payment to post to the maker's bank account.

I don't see my particular skill, software, or material listed.

No problem! We're always looking to expand what ABACUS can offer and this depends on our makers. Please let us know what skill, software, and/or material category or subcategory you need added and we'll get to it right away. Please email support@makewithabacus.com with your request.
